Weezer have shared news that ‘Pinkerton’ has gone platinum - just 8 days short of its 20th birthday.

The record was originally released back in September 1996 - to a notoriously mixed reception - and has since earned cult status, culminating in their ‘Memories’ tour dates from 2010 onwards, in which they performed both it and self-titled debut the ‘Blue’ album in full on consecutive nights.

In the US, Platinum status is awarded to albums shipping over one million copies (in the UK, for comparison, it’s 300,000).

Sharing news via their Instagram page, each member of the band was congratulated, including former bassist Matt Sharp who played on the record and current member Scott Shriner, “surely your live efforts played a major role in spreading this slice of gospel for the last 15 years of the 20”.

Weezer released tenth studio album, the self-titled ‘White’ album, back on 1st April. Read an interview with Rivers about the record, taken from our May 2016 issue, here.
