Neu Pick
Whenyoung face the seven deadly sins in their new ‘Heaven On Earth’ video
The band have also announced a London headline show for October.
Every weekday, DIY’s new music know-it-all Neu brings you one essential new release to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from Whenyoung.
Between tours with Peace, Dream Wife, Declan McKenna and more, Irish trio Whenyoung recently released their new single ‘Heaven On Earth’, a push and pull between heaven and hell set over beautifully catchy indie-pop.
The band now have a new video for the track, and it’s playing first on DIY as today’s Neu Pick. A trip through the seven deadly sins, the clip sees the band gorge on a buffet, pop the champers, feel the power of wrath, and emerge out the other side not quite the same.
Speaking about the track and clip, vocalist/bassist Aoife Power says: “Heaven On Earth is our take on the idiom “one man’s meat is another man’s poison”. The song describes how one person’s idea of heaven is another person’s idea of hell.
“The video was inspired by the unfinished film L’Enfer by Henri-Georges Clouzot which is based Dante’s Inferno. We were really impressed by the experimental cinematography used in this film and wanted to borrow some of the effects used.”
Having played a huge Dublin show alongside Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and Patti Smith last night (6th June), the band are set to head on a UK headline tour after a summer packed with festivals. They’ve also just announced a London date for the headline run, at the Boston Arms on 11th October.
