Bristol’s wych elm share the short and snappy indie of ‘1983’

Bristol quartet wych elm are releasing their debut EP ‘rat blanket’ via new Bristol label Post Mortem Records on 22nd March, and its latest track ‘1983’ is today’s Neu Pick.

A short and snappy cut that clocks in at less than two minutes, the track recalls Wolf Alice in its ’90s-nodding grunge textures, and the way it contrasts light and dark, with a groove-laden intro section crashes into an unhinged wave of howled vocals and guitars without warning.

Speaking of the song, vocalist Caitlin Elliman says: “‘1983’ is about my personal experience with trusting men. It’s about how quickly my relationship changed with someone. You never know what men’s true intentions are with you.”

wych elm are set to play two release shows for the new EP in Bristol and London.

They’ll play The Social in the capital on 22nd March, and Bristol’s Rough Trade the following evening.
