Years & Years, The Vaccines, and Blaenavon release Torch Song charity covers

The new campaign raises awareness of CALM - a charity which works to prevent male suicide.

Years & Years, The Vaccines, Blaenavon and Lower than Atlantis are among a bunch of bands recording brand new covers for charity. The songs are being released in aid of Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), a charity dedicated to preventing male suicide.

Francis Lung and Frank Turner are also getting involved in the Torch Songs project, with curveball covers of some unexpected songs either out now, or in the works for later this week. So far, Years & Years have taken on Joni Mitchell’s ‘Both Sides Now’, and Blaenavon have done their own version of Elliot Smith’s ‘Everything Reminds Me of Her’.

All round top chap Huw Stephens is also involved in the project. “Music is a constant, a saviour in the world which is unique to everyone,” he says in a press release. “We all know how much music means to us, and can help us sometimes. The artists involved, sharing their unique cover versions of their personal Torch Songs, are magnificent. The songs strike the right note; give you hope; remind you of the possibilities; remind you you’re not alone. We launch Torch Songs with some spectacular talents sharing their intimate Torch Songs with us – it’s a great way to get people talking about talking.”
