Years & Years stream ‘Unplugged’ version of ‘Take Shelter’ single
Hear Olly Alexander bring a spellbinding piano lead to the band’s new single.

Years & Years have their own defined roles - Michael Goldsworthy and Emre Turkmen are the studio heads, the cabin-fevered kings of electronics who spend every hour twiddling and tweaking the parts that form their forward-leaning pop. Then in steps Olly Alexander, the skinny frontman with a flooring voice. He fronts the project will all the energy of a giddy puppy - it’s the perfect combination.
On a new version of their forthcoming single ‘Take Shelter’, the roles are switched. Removing the attention-switching beats and flickering electronics, they instead opt for simple piano, with Olly’s voice swerving into unlikely corners. What a voice it is he possesses - it’s something truly special.
DIY’s delighted to be bringing you the first play of ‘Take Shelter - Unplugged’. You can read an interview with Years & Years in the August issue of DIY, out tomorrow, 8th August.
The track’s downloadable for free to anyone who Shazams the original version of ‘Take Shelter’ - following that, tickets are being given away for a secret show in London, taking place on the week beginning 19th August.
‘Take Shelter’ is out 19th August on Polydor. Catch Years & Years at Beacons Festival this weekend, 9th August.
