Years & Years unveil new single, ‘King’

DIY Class of 2015 cover stars Years & Years have kicked off the year with a new single, ‘King’.

Following on from the late-2014 hit ‘Desire’, the London trio’s new slick banger shares the same mentality as its predecessor. There’s a warm, in-the-club aesthetic, coupled with inventive sampling, Olly Alexander’s backflipping vocals setting the agenda. “I was a king under your control,” he sings, this clearly being one of several songs about unrequited love that Olly promised when telling DIY about a debut album.

In our Dec ’14 / Jan ’15 cover feature, the trio told DIY to expect an LP before the summer. “I really resent having to say they’re all heartbreak songs. But they’re all personal, lyrically referring to the last three years of my life. It’s a personal therapy,” said the frontman.

Listen to ‘King’ below, which premiered on Radio 1 as Zane Lowe’s Hottest Record.

26 Birmingham, Institute Temple
27 Manchester, Deaf Institute
