Zun Zun Egui announce UK tour

The band will be playing live in support of their new album, ‘Shackles’ Gift’.

Zun Zun Egui are gearing up to release their second album ‘Shackles’ Gift’ and are heading out on tour next year to celebrate. The follow up to 2011’s ‘Katang’ will be released through Bella Union on 26th January and has been produced by Andrew Hung of Fuck Buttons.

Inspired by a trip to Mauritius, the homeland of singer/guitarist Kushal Gaya, Zun Zun Egui have set out to make an album that marries the contradictions of tradition and technology, all because of a fisherman.

“This old guy was telling us stories about how some local folk music came from people working in sugar cane fields,” explains Kushal. “They would hear the moist, mechanical sugar cane mill and this rhythm helped them create a new kind of work music.

“To me this was an incredible story because I really love harsh industrial music but I thought this was even more brutal. It was like early industrial music, but not conceptually driven. I started thinking of Mauritian folk music being very modern and futuristic… this opened a door in my mind.”

Zun Zun Egui are playing the following dates.
