kicks off with ‘Believe’, which frankly sounds like a really awful backing track for a party scene in The O.C. Then someone starts rapping and it sounds like Vanilla Ice on a really bad trip. Is this a joke?
Not a great start. The next song, ‘Violent And Young’, sounds like someone has had too much fun with ‘garage band’ on their new Mac, along with the rapping verses and a contrasting repetitive whining chorus. Then we go onto ‘DayGlo’ with its sickeningly Summery synths, bound to make any listener bored and irritated.
If you can continue forcing yourself to listen to this poor excuse for an album, you’ll finally reach closer ‘Jump Out Of Your Car’, which contains lyrics such as ‘I have shiny white hair, and shiny white teeth’; if that isn’t enough to make you want to smash up your CD player, nothing will be.
Overall, ‘& The Boom’ sounds incredibly home-made, all the songs being so similar it feels like listening to one really long song rather than an album. Radio 1 love them, and it’s been described as ‘the sound of the summer’… thank fuck it’s winter.
