Jerkcurb - Night Fishing On A Calm Lake

The journey is so much wider than one would imagine.

Jerkcurb - Night Fishing On A Calm Lake

A journey through Jerkcurb’s own mind, ‘Night Fishing On A Calm Lake’ takes sounds that typically wouldn’t work together and finds common ground among its chaos - perhaps a reflection of the world that unfolded around him, grasping at what life was like after the passing of his father. Here, Jacob Read is Jerkcurb’s commander, masterminding a wonderland of textures and tones - time signatures be damned - incorporating strings, keys, harmonies, steel guitars, xylophone, and synthesisers on a winding path through ‘80s sonics (‘Home On The Ranch’, ‘Hungry’), country (‘Death Valley Morning Dew,’ ‘Larchmont’), R&B (‘Loss Dub’), folk (‘Mothematics’), and shoegaze (‘The Rocks’). Despite this excursion of sound, he keeps some sense of unison, using soothing harmonies, gentle percussion, and repetition - which does sometimes veer towards monotony - to weave in reminders that this is, in fact, all one record. The journey is so much wider than one would imagine - so lace up your boots.
