South London’s Jerkcurb shares new single ‘Hungry’
The reflective new offering gets taken from his forthcoming new album ‘Night Fishing On A Calm Lake’.

South London’s Jerkcurb - aka Jacob Read - has offered up another cut from his forthcoming new album, ‘Night Fishing On A Calm Lake’.
The reflective track, ‘Hungry’, is a tender ode to picking up the pieces in the wake of grief, and trying to figure out how to re-enter the world again. The track comes inspired by Jacob’s own experiences, after the passing of his father, which happened after the release of his 2019 debut ‘Air Con Eden’. It’s lifted from his second album, which will be released next month, on 28th November via Handsome Dad Records.
“‘Hungry’ is a shout to the world from the pits of grief,” he explains, of the track. “Wanting to come out of hibernation and devour the world again. I bought a drum machine from a boot sale and a new synth and wrote this song very quickly. The lyrics are very on the nose, but they came from a real feeling. As much as you want to re enter the land of the living, the grief is still there. Grief acts as a social filtration system. Friends you’ve known your whole life suddenly cross the street when they see you. So you end up having these existential conversations with strangers, shopkeepers, cab drivers, librarians, tube workers. London is a good place for that.
“Stylistically this is ego death. Moving back home, I was craving utopian tones of my childhood, new age, techno, sophistipop CDs my father left behind. The whimpering bass tone from ‘Take My Breath Away’. The Blue Nile, Kate Bush, David Sylvian. It was the first time in my life I had become interested in synthesizers.”
