Ara Koufax - Converge

DIY’s recent investigation ’ Australia: What’s In the Water?’ dived deep Down Under to try and discover exactly why and how so many exciitng acts seem to be emerging out of the country at the same time. This relative recent wave can be explained through various factors, but sometimes it boils down to a casual Soundcloud upload, a first play that hits the system without a second’s notice.

Melbourne-based production duo Ara Koufax give legs to this theory. Their debut, ‘Converge’, brings together strapping house samples with the kind of booming, reverberating dancehall vocal that could’ve wound up in early Disclosure tracks. It’s a simple formula, but it’s one that feels like it distinctly belongs Down Under, where sweltering clubs get shadowed in bright lights in the middle of big, exciting cities.
