With music as unmistakeably French as any cliché that you’d care to point out, Camille is another artist who is bringing some sass and sexiness to this experimental pop malarkey. Looped vocal notes and clicks accompany a bass, drums and piano set-up and lie behind the lady’s odd and often incomprehensible warbling. The closest comparison that could really be made here is to Bjork and a slight stretch would point to a more organic sounding Robyn. Camille uses these sounds to mock and mimic Mariah Carey, using her fantastic vocals in climbs for which Carey is infamous.
This track may be a bit show-offey (but that’s somewhat the point in mocking Carey isn’t it?), but as previously mentioned, this lady can actually sing and certainly kicks the rears of any previous winner of the X Factor through having some personality also. As long as she remains as interesting and unique as this it’s the opinion of this reviewer that she should be allowed to show off and maybe even sell a few records whilst she’s at it. After all Girls Aloud are one of the more innovative sounding and credible acts in Britain at the moment and they wouldn’t be able to do this. Camille can speak French and is able to let the funky music do the talking also.
