Greta Isaac - Dolly Zoom

In all its saccharine chaos, it ups the ante.

Greta Isaac - Dolly Zoom

Greta Isaac’s fourth solo EP, ‘Dolly Zoom’, is nothing like its predecessor. Released earlier this year, ‘Productive Pain’ felt far closer to the output of collaborative indie outfit FIZZ - of which Greta was a member until its disbanding in 2024 - and consequently the EP was left devoid of much of the bohemian, alt-pop party girl aesthetic she’d expertly built on 2022’s electro-pop tour-de-force ‘I Think You’d Hate it Here’. It wasn’t bad, by any means, mind - just undeniably lethargic in comparison. ‘Dolly Zoom’, meanwhile, is concussive in its return to energetic pop, and repositions her former release as a brief intermission. Led by its titular unhinged alter-ego, Greta’s maniacal vocals ride ‘00s electroclash, particularly on stand-out ‘Soft Scoop Talking Dog’, a femme-fatale club floor filler. ‘Dolly Zoom’, in all its saccharine chaos, ups the ante, taking cues from the industrial sensibilities of fellow alt-pop trailblazer Ashnikko to expand the Greta Isaac proposition while undoubtedly satiating the wait for her debut proper.
