SLAG - Losing

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and the EP artwork from rising Brighton quintet SLAG - in all its relevantly simple glory - does a pretty good job of relaying their spirit. Managing to encapsulate their out-and-out sense of playfulness while giving an insight into their sense of musicality (you can see a good dose of indie sleaze, art-pop and glam-rock courtesy of the glittery platform, fishnets and multiple skinny belts on display), ‘Losing’ is a five-track blitz through their eclectic but effervescent personality as a five-piece.

Even without having a sense of their wider visuals, the likes of ‘Face Off’ and the EP’s title track are earwormy and chaotic in equal measure, the former flecked with math rock-esque noodling while the latter’s different layers heighten things to a frenzied level. ‘Still Here’, meanwhile, has a delightful swagger, with vocalist Amelie Gibson proving herself to be a captivating leader. A delightful introduction to a band who clearly have the most potent of chemistry.
