Wouldn’t Morrissey be proud? He we have a lead singer who has nailed the Moz Father’s deep, throaty tones and penchant for crooning about matters of the heart. However, there seems to be something slightly awry. What’s this? A synth riff? And cooing Beach Boy-esque backing vocals that transport us back to a time when young boys wore winklepickers and the term ‘binge drinking’ meant having a sherry in the afternoon?
Ah, wait; it’s the Golden Silvers with a danceable slice of delightful indie pop. Although not the best song to release from their album ‘True Romance’, it bounds along with the kinaesthetic energy produced when a musical mind has access to a keyboard and doo-wop harmonies. Despite its chirpiness, one wonders why they have chosen to re-release this mediocre ditty when there is a fistful of quality tracks still left on the album.
