Damon ‘All-Bran’ Albarn - if nothing else he’s regular.
Sorry.
It seems no time at all since ‘Plastic Beach’ was winging it’s way into our ears, and yet here we are - all ‘new single ahoy!’
‘Doncamatic’, for better or worse, has very little to do with The Blackout Crew, and everything to do with vintage Korg rhythm machines. Obviously.
Speaking musically, rather than thematically, it’s a further lesson in what Gorillaz have become. While your average track might be a tad more ‘urban pop’ than Albarn would offer up in his less hidden guises, his cartoon chums are fast becoming an outlet for a world of amazing ideas.
Mostly falling into the beautifully simple yet effective category, it’s the delightfully plodding synth running through ‘Doncamatic’ that makes for a track deserving in the higher echelons of the Gorillaz repetoir.
Now, Damon, about Blur…
