Jacob Golden - On A Saturday

It’s hard to tell what there’s more of: generic indie rock bands peddling rubbish about their jeans, or singer-songwriters peddling rubbish about their feelings.

These days it’s hard to tell what there’s more of: generic indie rock bands peddling rubbish about their jeans, or singer-songwriters peddling rubbish about their feelings. ‘On A Saturday’ would normally fall under the category of the latter, aside from one important factor: it’s not actually rubbish.

Jacob Golden spends the duration of this track longing for a romantic view of Britain, where he can ‘watch the girls in Soho Square’, in a way that only foreigners can really see. Luckily for Jacob though, this is set to music that sounds like watching the sky turn orange at sunset whilst you sit under a park tree in the summer. He also gets bonus points for using the words ‘helicopter’ and ‘supernova’ in quick succession and having a single that sounds well produced and mastered.

It’s quite clearly not for everyone, and should Jacob Golden achieve success at any point in the future he will very much be labelled ‘bland’ by the rock loving masses, however if something summery, relaxing and, well …nice is what you’re after then you could do a lot worse than ‘On A Saturday’.
