Jarvis Cocker - Angela

This is nasty. Which of course means that it’s great.

This is nasty. Which of course means that it’s great. Jarvis Cocker has been on form since the early 90s and this is no dip whatsoever. Apparently this album’s sound was informed by the Jarvis’ realisation that his band know how to rock out. We can believe this as such this is much fuzzier and snarlier than anything off his first solo record and is built on the foundation of a cracking riff and a surprising piano part.

‘Angela’ feels as though it’s thrusting crotch first into your eardrums and it’s good to know that the 45 year old Jarvis is lusting after someone over twenty years his junior. It makes us feel somewhat dirty listening to it, but it wouldn’t be Jarvis without lines like “I feel the sap rising tonight”. Our appetite for the forthcoming ‘Further Complications’ album is thoroughly whetted by this track, and luckily for all of us during these cash strapped times it’s available free to download (so you’ve got no excuse).

It seems that for all of the changes that occur in pop music and trendy scenes, one constant is the libido of Jarvis Cocker. It’s good enough to mean that we don’t miss Pulp any more. Well, nearly anyway. The man can do no wrong.
