Adult Jazz, Wharf Chambers, Leeds

A constantly changing instrumental line-up is utilised seamlessly.

After travelling to London to play a sold-out show at Servant Jazz Quarters, Adult Jazz return to Leeds’ Wharf Chambers. Like an eccentric machine that sits on the fence of all genres, their set is both original and phenomenal.

Opener ‘Hum’ combines trombone swells, ambient rhythms and a deep octave effect on the lead vocals creating a commanding start. The vocalist remains off-centre and his mic-stand has a prosthetic hand prop directing the mic to his mouth.

The groove of ‘Springful’ protrudes a sex appeal that gets hips and shoulders moving in waves. Everything that comes from the band perfectly suits their sound. If the lyric ‘I write these songs to trick God and I do not take it lightly’ doesn’t describe their sound perfectly nothing else will. They are a four-piece of multi-instrumentalists that even includes two drummers, and a constantly changing instrumental line-up is utilised seamlessly.

Ending with ‘Am Gone’ - featured on their only physical release to date - Adult Jazz are a band that will transport you to places of ingenuity and utopia.
