Adult Jazz vocalist Harry Burgess and PC Music’s Lil Data debut new project Offer with the sprawling, ambient ‘Day Away’

The 12-minute track is the first offering from the new project, a decade in the making.

Every weekday, DIY’s new music know-it-all Neu brings you one essential new release to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from Offer.

Adult Jazz vocalist Harry Burgess and PC Music’s Lil Data have today emerged with new project Offer and its debut track, the sprawling ‘Day Away’.

A creation ten years in the making, the track is a melting pot of genres that feels like a comprehensive trip, thrilling and tranquil in equal parts.

Meeting, as all good groups do (we guess?), on a fan forum for lauded mid-’00s dance punks ¡Forward Russia!, the pair have tinkered away at the project for the last decade, and ‘Day Away’ is worth the wait.

As testament to its lengthy creation, the track travels through many states in its 12 minutes. A booming, atmospheric intro skips into a scrambled, left-of-centre folk song, before the kind of gloopy, hyper-modern pop that we’re more used to seeing from Lil Data (who produced ‘Track 10’ from Charli XCX’s recent ‘POP 2’ mixtape worms its way in.

The track calmly floats its way to the 12-minute mark with ambient noise punctuated by Harry’s treated but still distinctive vocals, and leaves the door entirely open as to what could come next from Offer.

For now, it’s a very exciting start - listen below.
