Reading 2016
Creeper lay waste to Reading 2016
The crowd are firmly in the palm of their hands from the off.
Creeper have had a monstrous 2016. From their second ever show for DIY at London’s Old Blue Last, to a packed out return to the capital at a sold-out Underworld, every set has felt like a real moment.
Unsurprisingly, then, today’s Reading Festival set sees them as champions. Frontman Will Gould strides out onto the stage to be greeted by a huge Creeper flag held aloft from a sway of bodies that starts moving and doesn’t really stop for their half-hour set.
‘The Honeymoon Suite’ sees Gould orchestrate a circle pit around a huge pillar in the middle of the crowd, supremely confident in his every move. Gould doesn’t really need a microphone for the majority of the set - he’s drowned out by a thunderously passionate crowd.
Closer ‘Misery’ has undoubtedly reached anthem status, and sends Creeper off with an outstanding ovation. There’s still four months left of Creeper’s massive year, and it’s frightening to think where they could be this time next year. Main stage, anyone?
