Leeds Festival 2014: Sunday highlights

Reading & Leeds isn’t the type of festival to leave punters wanting. There’s a ridiculous amount of things to see, bands to check out before they ‘break’, familiar faces stepping up to a big billing. This year’s no different. One swift stumble can bring the average fan from a heaving, moshing Lock Up tent straight through to the newly established 1Xtra stage. A swift sprint can take in new names on the BBC Introducing stage, and 5 minutes away some of the biggest bands in the world will be playing to thousands on the Main Stage.

Every day this weekend, we’re bringing a selective pick of the 10 most exciting things to see. These range from relative unknowns to deserving headliners, and we’ve put it all together into a nifty playlist. So if this year’s an armchair Reading & Leeds, here’s the soundtrack. And for anyone wanting to relive 2014’s R&L memories, these playlists will stay up until eternity (or at least until 21st century gremlins somehow destroy the internet).

Arctic Monkeys - One For The Road

There’s no looking back now - Arctic Monkeys are here to stay, cemented headliners only getting more assured in their bill-topping status. This one was a no-brainer for R&L organisers. It also happens to be their final UK show around ‘AM’ - the end of a whirlwind era. [Listen]

Pulled Apart By Horses - Lizard Baby

‘Blood’-thirsty for more, Pulled Apart By Horses are very much on the brink of becoming one of the UK’s biggest bands. They’re already Reading & Leeds favourites - expect this to be one of the sweatiest, most hotly-anticipated sets of the weekend. [Listen]

Peace - Money

Previewing material from album number two, this year’s Peace appearance arrives one year on from 2013’s set, one that marked their arrival as a truly special band. Expect a similarly frenzied, adoring welcome this afternoon. [Listen]

Chvrches - Lies

From 2013 Festival Republic Stage headliners to one of this weekend’s biggest fixtures, Chvrches will be showcasing the very best of synth-pop triumph, debut album ‘The Bones of What You Believe’. [Listen]

Royal Blood - Come On Over

Their debut album’s out there, so this is going to be quite the celebration. Thrashing Brighton duo Royal Blood’s ascent has been insane - the biggest proof yet will arrive today. [Listen]

MØ - Don’t Wanna Dance

Danish newcomer MØ’s making her Leeds debut today at the Dance Stage. Showcasing tracks from her ‘No Mythologies To Follow’ debut, expect genre-hopping, excitable hyperactivity of the highest order. [Listen]

Wolf Alice - Bros

They’ve been handed a tasty spot on the Festival Republic stage, the kind that lends to heaving crowds pouring out from the edges of the tent. Wolf Alice know this is a big moment for them, and a year ahead of their debut album it could very much be the making of them. [Listen]

Lower Than Atlantis - Go On Strike

With a forthcoming self-titled album on the horizon, this afternoon Lower Than Atlantis take on the Radio 1 / NME stage with the fullest of intent. On the brink of being a main stage fixture, watch them stake their claim today. [Listen]

Lonely The Brave - Backroads

An early afternoon highlight, there’s no doubt Lonely The Brave are going to cure any post-Friday night hangovers with a relentless set. [Listen]

Gnarwolves - History Is Bunk

Last year Gnarwolves stole the agenda with one of the weekend’s very first sets. This year they’re on the main stage, deserving of it too. It’s a huge moment for them - arguably the biggest of their career so far. Don’t expect these skate punks to fall short. [Listen]
