Live Review
Twin Atlantic, Roundhouse, London
3rd November 2014
This band know how to put on a show.
Three thousand people screaming your song lyrics back at you is bound to be a humbling experience for any band. This is what Twin Atlantic face as they play a packed out Roundhouse, the Scots’ biggest headline show to date. Opening with the mellower ‘The Ones That I Love’, the much more energetic ‘Hold On’ then kicks in, and from that point on the pace never drops as they tear through a 20-strong set. All tracks from this year’s ‘Great Divide’ have a place - and are met with the crowd screaming along with every word. A mosh pit also makes a fairly welcome appearance through some of the heavier tracks like ‘I Am An Animal’ and ‘Cell Mate’.
A wider use of different instruments is also introduced, the band not afraid to show off. Sam McTrusty's vocals reach new heights; Craig Kneale smashes out an impressive drum solo midway through 'The Ghost of Eddie'. It's easily one of the night's best bits, Kneale enjoying his time in the spotlight.
Older numbers such as 'What Is Light? Where Is Laughter?' get an airing, 'Crash Land' is breathtaking, McTrusty stepping back from the microphone allowing the entire room to join in the mass sing-along without assistance. The show then closes with an encore featuring three from the new album - 'Oceans', 'Brothers and Sisters' and 'Heart and Soul', whose reactions were on another level. This band know how to put on a show.
