Mirror Mirror - New Horizons

Either you like prog or you don’t. It’s really that simple, and ‘New Horizons’ certainly has the feel of prog about it.

Either you like prog or you don’t. It’s really that simple, and ‘New Horizons’ certainly has the feel of prog about it. The instrumentation has all the swirls of The Moody Blues, the lead vocals are buried fairly low in the mix, and are backed by an almost wordless, ethereal female voice.

The denseness of the sound doesn’t last as long as you’d expect, however, and instead of the musical equivalent of masturbation, fiddling with guitars is cut in favour of finishing the track before the three-minute mark. It’s certainly enough to warrant further listens, even if it’s only because you didn’t quite get it all in first time through.

Liable to be lapped up by some and completely lost on others, Mirror Mirror are at least going against any other conceivable grain, and that’s only a good thing.
