Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Midnight Man

The keys and synthesizers make ‘Midnight Man’ an upbeat and energetic track, but it never gives up that prepossessing sexiness wielded in every Cave song.

This isn’t a cover of the ever-so eighties ‘Flash and the Pan’, but a wholly more cacophonous approach to the crowning of ‘Midnight Man’. The third offering from Cave and his Bad Seeds from ‘Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!’ appears to be a return to the elementary shadowy and melodic fables with an added kick of funk which we have come to expect from the troupe.

The keys and synthesizers make ‘Midnight Man’ an upbeat and energetic track, but it never gives up that prepossessing sexiness wielded in every Cave song. There is a reoccurring twinkling noise which permeates the track, underneath the vociferous guitars and the often growlingly bewitching lyrics, creating a strangely serene atmosphere.

It certainly seems a more traditional Seeds release, coming after two less demanding tunes in ‘Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!’ and More News From Nowhere. It brandishes the collective incremental power of a band of brawny maestros who are far from shying away from their well deserved spotlight. They have yet to outstay their welcome.
