If you took the time to imagine a collaboration between ‘Antidotes’ era Foals and Vampire Weekend you might well come up with ‘Animal’ by Real Fur. Therefore, it’s handy that they’ve gone and released it for you as it means that you don’t have to imagine it.
The production here is paper thin, but that’s no bad thing. It ensures that the zinging guitars and afro-math-pop beat remain completely uncluttered and that the bridge is sparse and sunny. The only real gripe is that the vocals could be accused of veering into landfill indie territory. Still, that’s a minor issue really when the music’s so damn upbeat.
Providing you’re not after something that’s going to change your life you should go now and have a listen to Real Fur and their so-called Safari Funk, especially if the weather’s good. It’d be nice to have this as the breakthrough of the summer, so let’s see it happen.
