is the debut single from the improbably named The Incredible Flight Of Birdman, a group who claim to have bonded over a shared love of Bowie. Whilst at times the vocal inflections may owe a small debt to the pop chameleon, the group’s sound on this single couldn’t be really much further removed from the great man’s output.
Whilst the lead guitar chimes in a vaguely folky manner ‘Where I Can’t See You’ isn’t the easiest song to place, for electric guitar chords that puncture the song and it’s odd keyboard into defy easy pigeonholing. However, when we’re not trying to listen to this merely for reviews sake it is apparent that there’s plenty going on on the track, both musically and vocally with little effects and reverb persuading us to give the song just another listen. Of particular interest is the irregular and shifting backing vocals which range from cooing to something resembling a section of a choral chant. The resultant whole is, as far as we’re concerned, perfectly tuned into these wintery conditions we’re having even if the track is perhaps not as evocative as there’s the feeling that the band are intended.
Whilst we can’t guarantee that you’ll love The Incredible Flight Of Birdman, it’s highly recommended that you seek this song out and give it a good few listens. It may prove to be something truly praiseworthy and should explain fully what it is about this song that’s quite difficult to grasp in any quantifiable way.
