Van She - Cat & The Eye

This tune could probably brain wash and take over the world.

One of Australia’s favourite exports, along with The Presets and Foster’s, Van She have been bashing out the tunes since 2005, starting with the release of their much loved self-titled debut EP. With tracks ‘Sex City’ and ‘Kelly’ featuring, the band were able to position themselves firmly in the annoying bit of our brain, you know, the part that, when nothing else is going on up there, will pull out the most irritating song it can find and put it on repeat. After the EP, the band stayed on the DL, preferring to remix under the name Van She Tech. Artists such as Klaxons, Tiga and Feist were lucky to be touched (seriously, their reworking of Klaxons’ ‘Gravity’s Rainbow’ will always put a smile on our faces as we furiously punch the air with our fists). The band eventually returned with a full album, ‘V’, in 2008, featuring new single ‘Cat & The Eye’.

It is catchy, frustratingly so. With airplay, this tune could probably brain wash and take over the world. It recalls modern day children’s television, but sent back to 1984. Terrifying. Nothing frightens and haunts more than recalling your days of Saturday morning screen praise. Everything about this track makes you want to hate it, as you nod your head and tap your toe. But trust us, within a couple of listens, you’re mind should build a filter which will shut your ears down, should it come on anywhere in the real world.
