Yumi Zouma - Barricade (Matter Of Fact)

Yumi Zouma appear to have conquered their own inhibitions.

Yumi Zouma used to be dispersed across different continents, working via email, but that method has come to an end with their most collaborative work to date. Their latest single, ‘Barricade (Matter of Fact)’, arrives with geographical distance now sewn together. Having previously split their bandmates between New York, Paris and Christchurch, they reassembled last year in order to record their debut full length with intimacy in mind.

‘Barricade (Matter of Fact)’ is lyrically and sonically a remedy for anxiety. The exact cause of this anxiety however, remains unclear. As lead-singer Christie Simpson gracefully sighs, “just breath, just breath… it’s new to leave it alone / I’m only scared that I’ll seek it endlessly”, they submerge emotions in heavy synths and vibrant muted rhythms. Surrounding the listener in the illuminating melodies and luscious tones,of their subdued emotive pop music. Vulnerable and sensitive,Yumi Zouma appear to have conquered their own inhibitions.

Yumi Zouma’s debut album ‘Yoncalla’ is out May 27th via Cascine.
