Listen: WIFE Previews Debut Album With ‘Heart Is A Far Light’

Irish-based songwriter James Kelly aka WIFE is the latest signing to Tri Angle Recordings (Evian Christ, Holy Other). Darkness resides in his music, and not just in the creepy crevices and quiet corners. As a former frontman for black metal band Altar of Plagues, Kelly knows his way around terrifying a listener or two.

Saying that, ‘Heart Is A Far Light’ - the lead track on new album ‘What’s Between’ - is a more comforting prospect than expected. Looped backing vocals might sound like a demonic choir trying to take over the world, but light guitar stabs (if there’s such a thing) and thudding electronic beats create something out of the ordinary. This sits somewhere outside of the casual darkness scale, breathing life into grim reality. It finds positivity in the one thing that keeps us all alive.

WIFE’s debut album ‘What’s Between’ is released on 9th June, 2014 via Tri Angle.
