News Baby In Vain

Previewing The Great Escape, Baby In Vain carry high octane prowess.

Name

: Baby in Vain
Listen: ‘Seize The End
Based: Copenhagen, Denmark
Similar to: Wolf Alice, White Lung

Drenched in dissonance and disdain, Danish music has been thriving in recent years. The likes of Lower, War and of course Iceage have all in turn painted a pretty bleak picture of what it’s like for youth in Denmark today. But for this writer anyway, in bleakness comes curiosity, and Copenhagen three-piece Baby in Vain have intrigue by the bucketload.

They first gained attention with a video for last year’s ‘Corny #1’, which - if you haven’t heard it yet - is a heavy-hitting, grunge-tinged anthem that sounds a bit like a dirtier, far more stoned version of Royal Blood or Drenge. It was a snarling uproar of an opening statement, and Baby in Vain carried that high octane prowess along with them to festivals all over the world, including SXSW.

More recently they’ve pulled the curtains back on ‘Seize The End’, a song that’s just as apocalyptic as its title suggests. Imagine Wolf Alice fully embracing their inner wolf, or Haim taking influence from Fugazi or any of the other 80s hardcore legends. Nasty, abrasive and exceedingly powerful, ‘Seize The End’ dominates the senses with razor-sharp guitar lines and frantic howls that echo the jarring vocal qualities of White Lung’s Mish Way or Screaming Females’ Marissa Paternoster.

All this boils down to just how exciting and refreshing Baby in Vain are, and cements them as an important band to watch in the near future.

See Baby In Vain play Brighton’s The Hope, 10th May at 7.45pm.
