Interview Dan Bastille interviews the people behind the weirdest mash-up album of the year

This Guy Fieri-themed release from ‘Bastilleus’ is so mad, Bastille want to use it for their second album.

Forget your Kanye or Adele records - the surprise release of the year belongs to Bastilleus ‘Bastille Volume 1’, a mash-up album to conquer them all. The project of five very bored co-workers, it has telly chef Guy Fieri on the cover. It bases most of its songs around Smash Mouth’s ‘All Star’. Eventually, it gets down to the serious stuff and mixes Bastille’s ‘Pompeii’. Then it throws in another ‘All Star’ sample, and the whole thing repeats until it becomes the indisputable album of our time.

Bear in mind that this album arrived on the same day as #piggate. The nation was distracted and in hysterics. But for forty precious minutes, the collective attention was stolen by this masterpiece. We tweeted the release, and it didn’t take long before Bastille themselves were getting involved. “Oh bollocks our entire new album has leaked online,” they replied - and this was before ‘Hangin’’ entered the world.

Since then, the legacy of ‘Bastilleus’ hasn’t gone unnoticed. No mash-up has - or ever will - conquer this. And despite having more important things to do like getting on with that bloody new album, Bastille remain engrossed in ‘Bastille Volume 1’. So much so, Dan Smith penned questions for the creators of the release - Chris Roman and his co-workers Mike, Joe, John and Adam.

Without further ado, here is the Bastille vs. ‘Bastilleus’ interview the world’s been waiting for.
