Side projects are more common than colds these days. Zachary Cole Smith from New York indie-popsters Beach Fossils being the latest to raise eyebrows with his new band Dive.

After only a brief existence that only has seen two 7” releases to their name, the band - which includes former Smiths Westerns drummer Coby Hewitt – have created a sound that is already beginning to merge and transform. So while traces of the trademark Beach Fossils sound are still intact, all knobs, instruments and intensity levels have been increased tenfold, loaded with reverb and then hit with a shot of acidic adrenaline.

And while being holed up in a ‘real’ studio recording their debut album, the bands latest single has clearly benefited from the professional surroundings. Latest single ‘Geist’ (out April 3rd) is an electrified whirlwind of echo-drenched guitars, speckled layers of psychedelica and raw, warping distortion.

Dive’s debut LP is expected this summer through Captured Tracks and promises to be very, very interesting to say the least.
