Preview Field Day 2014

With the east London event expanding to two days this year, here’s our pick of the Field Day pops.

A large chunk of east London’s Victoria Park has been cordoned off all week, as various tents, fences and stages are erected. It’s once again time for Field Day.

As the all-dayer has expanded to cover the whole weekend, Pixies in tow, here’s DIY’s pick of the artists to get your ears and eyes over while (probably) sheltering from the rain.

(Check here for Neu’s pick of those brand new artists on show over the event)

Sky Ferreira

Saturday 14:35, Eat Your Own Ears stage
With blistering debut ‘Night Time, My Time’ finally released in the UK this spring, it’s only been those lucky few who’ve caught Sky’s support slots with none other than Miley Cyrus who’ve have had the chance to see it played out live on these shores. Her main stage slot will change all that. Will lasers work in the daytime?

Blood Orange

Saturday 17:15, Eat Your Own Ears stage
It’s another rare UK appearance for the now New York resident – and this one’s just a few miles from where Ilford-born super-producer Dev Hynes grew up. Expect all the slick synths of latest album ‘Cupid Deluxe’, smart moves, and the sun to come out. Maybe.

Courtney Barnett

Saturday 19:40, Shacklewell Arms stage
A string of sold-out headline dates, a handful of festival appearances that’ve been impossible to get anywhere near – everything’s going right for this most laid-back of Aussie exports and her ‘double EP’ ‘A Sea of Split Peas’.

The Wytches

Sunday 14:50, Eat Your Own Ears stage
That main stage on Sunday is going to be one mighty space for Brighton-based trio The Wytches to fill, but their doomy rock should do it, blowing away any semblance of a hangover in the process.

Drenge

Sunday 18:20, Shacklewell Arms stage
Sure, it’s been a little while since the Loveless boys’ debut was released, but in that time they’ve honed their live set in to one brutal powerhouse of grungy punk. Oh yes.

Pixies

Sunday 21:00, Eat Your Own Ears stage
Because even the most cynical hipster will inevitably be singing along by the time Black Francis and 2/3 of his famous pals bring their massive 90s indie anthems to the main stage.
