Adele Progress Report: Adele

“Hiya babes!” Rumour has it that the long-awaited ‘30’ is right around the corner…

Just in time to usher in Sad Girl Autumn, it looks like Queen Of The Ballads - Adele, duh - is about to make her long-awaited comeback, and the fire starting in our hearts is reaching a fever pitch.

Six years on since the release of third album ‘25’, rumours have been swirling around for ages about a possible new record approaching, but this week the anticipation really amped up as new billboards have appeared and the singer’s social media has had a bit of a refurb.

We thought that after all the years you’d like to meet to go over everything…

The SNL Monologue

First up, we’re heading back to October 2020, when Adele went on Saturday Night Live as the host, leaving many people to wonder why she wasn’t the musical guest as well. Addressing this in her opening monologue, she said that there was a couple of reasons she wasn’t performing too. “My album’s not finished and I’m also too scared to do both,” she told the NYC audience. “I’d rather just put on some wigs, have a glass of wine or six, and just see what happens.”

Giving us a hint that there’s an album she’s working on, things are only gonna get more exciting from here…

The Billboards/Projections

Fast forward to this week and it looks like the appearance of several massive billboards/projections could be hinting that that previously mentioned album is on the way. With a blue and gold projection reading ‘30’ beamed onto several iconic landmarks, a certain Twitter sleuth found out that the projection was contracted by Sony, aka Adele’s label.

‘30’ also matches the previous style of her album titles: ‘19’, ‘21’ and ‘25’.

Coincidence? We think not.

The 2019 Instagram Caption

Now, you may be thinking, “DIY, just because someone projected ‘30’ onto the side of the Empire State Building, it doesn’t mean it’s from Adele”, to which we’d reply, “True, but she did hint at naming her new album 30 two years ago…”

Albeit said in a half-joke on Instagram, to celebrate her 31st birthday, Adele penned a caption about self-love and acceptance, ending on “30 will be a drum n bass record to spite you.”

You’ve been warned.

The Social Media Glow-Up

Another hint that the billboards/projections are legit came in the form of a good ol’ social media glow-up this week, which saw Adele changing her website and social icons to the same blue/gold colour scheme of the projections.

And we all know by now, that nothing says new era incoming like an Insta photo change…

“Hiya babes!”

Not content with just changing the colour scheme though, Adele hopped on Twitter last night after a nine month break to reply to… Twitter.

Referring to the Instagram/Whatsapp/Facebook meltdown that occurred last night, Twitter tweeted “hello literally everyone”, to which Adele replied “Hiya babes!”

Is this a new “Hello… It’s me” moment?! Probably not, but it would be a fun little twist.

The Taylor Swift teaser

If you thought the other points were reaching, strap in for this one.

With the new version of her 2012 album ‘Red’ originally set to arrive on 19th November, Taylor Swift announced in September that she would be bringing it forward one week.

“Got some news that I think you’re gonna like,” Taylor tweeted. “My version of Red will be out a week earlier than scheduled (including the 4 disc vinyl) on November 12th !”

Is the news that we’re gonna like that Adele is releasing ‘30’ on the 19th so you’ve brought your album release forward, Taylor?? Is it???
