New music guide The Neu Bulletin (10th July 2015)
DIY’s weekend new music tips, picking out a Big Moon show and songs from Peluché and Long Limbs.
The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out the inbox.
Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.
THE WEEKEND GIG: The Big Moon
Before taking over the UK via our Neu Tour this October, The Big Moon are playing a freebie at London’s Old Blue Last. With a debut single in tow, they’re joined by FVC and The Foetails. Expect ‘Eureka Moment’’s and loads more.
London, The Old Blue Last (Saturday 11th July)
All of Peluché’s songs come off like anecdotes from chance encounters in South London’s darkest corners, where strangers appear out of nowhere. None more so than ‘The Guy With The Gammy Eye’, a playful and nightcrawling take that’s coming out on producer Dan Carey’s Speedy Wunderground label. Beginning under a veil of mystery, it’s a song that soon kicks into fevered disarray - the best thing they’ve recorded to date.
THE BIG NEU THING:Peluché — The Guy With The Gammy Eye
It’s a mini-triumph that today, emerging from a crowded bunch of do-it-yourself diehards, Sheffield’s Best Friends have released their first full-length. From a niche but celebrated crowd, they’ve gone one step further by putting out a brilliant first work. That doesn’t mean they’re not still firmly involved in the DIY scene. Earlier this year, they released the debut single from newcomers Long Limbs via the Delicious Clam collective. The next step for this lot is an emotionally-fuelled, arms-aloft blast of fuzz, coming out via Art Is Hard’s hand-cut record club - limited to just 25 copies.
