THE GIG
Paradise, Parlour, Great Ytene - London, Dalston Victoria
With a recent MJ from Hookworms track being prepped for release on Dirty Bingo, Paradise are beginning to drown their tropical-pop early days in something deeper and more forthright. Watch how it plays out on the stage for tonight’s all star bringing together of bright names. Parlour and Great Ytene complete the bill.
THE SONG
Glass Vaults - Bright (DIY Premiere)
Here’s a new take from Glass Vaults’ ‘Bright’ EP, released on 25th October as a way of easing people into the Wellington group’s eventual debut LP, ‘Sojourn’. 2014 awaits for the full-length, but ‘Bright’ is a stirring preview, wrapped up in a barely-conscious aesthetic. Vocals are muffled, drowned in ether, while the group’s signature, tribal percussion weaves its way into the foreground like a lost friend finding their way back home. It’s a far cry from the group’s pastoral beginnings, but that doesn’t make it any less enticing.
OTHER NEU BUSINESS
Spies - November Sun (DIY Premiere)
Dublin’s Spies sound like they’re latching onto a higher calling. Every sky-reaching riff that creaks out their frenzied guitars is headed for the heavens, with frontman Michael Broderick getting more amped-up by the second. ‘November Sun’ is a gloomy, chant-centric giant, worthy of knocking King Kong from his perch on the Empire State building.
