Hear the rollocking synth-pop of SPIES’ new one ‘Uriah’

The Dublin five-piece’s new one is playing first on DIY.

Dublin five-piece SPIES made quite a splash when they emerged a few years back, supporting Wolf Alice on a UK tour and releasing buzzy EP ‘Sea Creature’.

They then all-but disappeared, only returning earlier this year with new single ‘Young Dad’. They’ve now shared the second track of their return, new one ‘Uriah’.

“We were starting to listen to the likes of Floating Points, Fatima Yamaha, New Jackson, etc,” the band say of their break and change in direction. “We were also learning how to use midi and sequence synthesisers. We collected a lot of gear and began to write songs using new sounds and techniques. We found it much more satisfying than our older style of writing where we made a lot of noise until something stuck.”

‘Uriah’ is a rumbling hit synth-pop, recalling Future Islands in its rumbling, runaway train of a rhythm section and watery synths.

The band’s new material will be previewed at two August shows, one in Dublin and one in London.

View the dates and listen to ‘Uriah’ below.
