New music guide The Neu Bulletin (13th October 2015)
DIY’s new music tips, featuring The Big Moon and Cross Record.
The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out the inbox.
Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.
THE GIG:
The Neu Tour - The Big Moon, Inheaven, Vant
Brighton, The Haunt
The penultimate leg of the Neu Tour takes place tonight, before everything goes nuts for a closing extravaganza at London Dingwalls (Wednesday 14th). It’s been a wild ride. Stage invasions, drunk shenanigans, really bad selfies - it’s all happened, and there’ll be a fair amount of bittersweet sentiment roaming around The Haunt tonight as this tour approaches its end.
THE BIG NEU THING:
Cross Record - Steady Waves
Emily Cross makes music as Cross Record, the kind that breaks ground and hearts in one sweeping move. On ‘Steady Waves’, Cross flicks a switch between fluttering acoustic verses and a vicious inner core. Wild and varied instrumentation rules the roost, clattering into the kind of climax Grizzly Bear would be proud to put their name to. The track is taken from a new Cross Record LP, ‘Wabi-Sabi’, out 29th January via Ba Da Bing.
