THE GIG
Girl Band - Brighton, Green Door Store
If Girl Band’s extremes-favouring new ‘Lawman’ single appears to push the boat out, wait until the Dublin group bring out their live game. A Girl Band show comes with a serious ear plugs suggestion - and that’s just from the mouths of those who’ve already seen them play - but you’re welcome to ride it out in what’s sure to be one of the most intense shows Green Door Store will witness all year.
THE BIG NEU THING
Primitive Parts - Open Heads
Primitive Parts are a band made up of members from Male Bonding and Sauna Youth, which essentially equates to some kind of heaven sent force raised on punk ideals. ‘Open Heads’ is their new single, out next month on Sexbeat. It sets itself up as a heartbreaker, basically pelting eggs (Justin Bieber style) at passers by from a monstrous road truck. Rackety, cocksure and completely aware of just how cool it is, this is something to get dizzyingly excited about.
OTHER NEU BUSINESS
Sparkle Blood - Not Working Out
DEMO by SPARKLE BLOOD
Sparkle Blood are sort of like a guy that confesses all his weaknesses on a first date. He’ll spit and pour his sorrows without letting the girl at the other side of the table get a word in. Putting vocals at the very top of the mix, the Calgary group let every crack, swerving verb get placed under inspection. There are serious flaws to ‘Not Working Out’, but brilliant ones. If this was a date, they wouldn’t make it out the restaurant without getting a snog.
