Gilla Band break release drought with new single ‘Giraffe’
The Dublin band have also announced a full slate of headline tour dates for 2026/2027.
Gilla Band are back, having just dropped new track ‘Giraffe’ - a stalking slow burn number that marks their first release in nearly four years, since 2023 standalone single ‘Sports Day’ (and their last LP, 2022’s ‘Most Normal’).
Veering between angular guitars and industrial flourishes before descending into a beat-driven breakdown midway through, the influential Irish outfit’s latest effort is a bold reintroduction to their signature idiosyncratic sound, and is available via Rough Trade as a very limited 7” picture disc.
“In this track, the first few sections represent what my general headspace is like,” vocalist Dara Kiely has noted. “It can be a very scattered and sometimes lonely place. Feeling unloved and finding it difficult to articulate what I’m actually thinking.
“The outro, on the other hand, indirectly details a kind of confirmation that affection towards me does exist. While I appreciate it, I still find that hard to believe.” He continues, quoting one of ‘Giraffe”s lyrics: “”She chased me out the door with a hairbrush demanding that I would wear a suitable jacket” - it’s a very Irish Mammy action. That amount of love is difficult for me to accept but it is a beautiful thing to have in life.”
