THE GIG
The Wytches - London, Tooting Tram and Social
Surf-doom specialists return to the headline game tonight after a week’s worth of support slots for the mighty Japandroids. The Wytches will probably be in more confident spirits than ever.
THE SONG
Mammoth Indigo - Parallelogram
Auroras by Mammoth Indigo
What a clever beast. Texas collection Mammoth Indigo’s debut EP ‘Auroras’ is a grand, ambitious thing. It’s worthy of a similarly full-of-itself opening, encompassing all the Pinback-meets-Menomena intelligence into one nifty introduction. ‘Parallelogram’ achieves this, blending charmingly shaky vocals - ‘let me look into those ee-ee-yes’ they call - with light xylophone and barely-there riffs, all overlapping.
OTHER NEU BUSINESS
Hollow & Akimbo - Fever Dreams
Ann Arbor’s Hollow & Akimbo produce all-encompassing, ridiculously punchy pop. Each and every element is pumped on energy. The vocals are but a tiny glaze on the direct furore that these guys feel so intent on furthering. It’s not embeddable, though - you can’t please everybody - so stream it here.
