THE GIG
Kate Boy, Amateur Best - London, Hoxton Bar and Kitchen
Offering Scandi-pop its brightest hope, Kate Boy are making a vital appearance in London’s Hoxton Square tonight, joined by the superb Amateur Best, whose recent debut album came out via Double Denim.
THE SONG
Raleigh Ritchie - A Moor
So far the clues run as follows. Raleigh Ritchie is from ‘Somewhere’. London, then. He has no promo shot, just a glittery logo. He’s a looker, then. You can judge these things on just how romantic and lustful debut track ‘A Moor’ is (nice pun, by the way). Like Jai Paul with the lights turned out and the candles lit, this is soul with effects pouring from the seams. We’re sold.
OTHER NEU BUSINESS
[visualkarma] - The Beauty Song
It’s a bit precious, maybe even a touch offensive, to suggest this track wouldn’t exist without the work of an already established artist. Perfume Genius didn’t invent the touching, cerebral melodrama that graces his records, but it sure as hell’s influenced a fair few. Max Rodriguez has been lovestruck, turned by said beauty, to the extent that it exceeds all expectations, creating something breathtakingly new to most people’s ears.
