News The Neu Bulletin (19th March 2014)

Neu’s daily new music fix features Temple Songs, Kat Bur and Adore, 1996.

The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Some of the music you’ll like, some of it you won’t. We can’t please everyone, sorry.

Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “big Neu thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery.

THE GIG
Temple Songs, Half Loon - London, Sebright Arms

Manchester’s Temple Songs continue to invite chatter for their scuzz-centric rock’n’roll, which plays out like a Tarantino movie it’s so gutsy and full of guitar-led gore. They’re backed by Half Loon tonight - fellow Neu favourites - at the Sebright.

THE BIG NEU THING
Adore, 1996
Went Home About It/City Smells by Adore, 1996

If Adore, 1996’s story is gospel, then these are the only recordings that survived a house fire in the musician’s Wellington home. Their state wasn’t perfect, but they were good enough to put out there, see what happens. It’s a blessing they emerged out of the flames. One of these tracks is a cover of James Ferraro’s ‘City Smells’. The other is ‘Went Home About It’, a loosely-arranged wall of noise full of slight hiccups that only add to the sense of drama. Let’s hope the tragedy that avoided these tracks doesn’t put off Adore, 1996 from making more music.

OTHER NEU BUSINESS
Kat Bur - Smoke

Some songs get by better by meandering instead of making one concise point, and this is an example. Berlin-based musician Kat Bur produces ‘Smoke’ to make it sound like it’s gasping for air under a thick wall of fog. Vocals are whispers that overlap. Percussion is skewed, suffocated. Somewhere within this is a snapping hook, but it doesn’t rush itself in being exposed.
