News The Neu Bulletin (1st October 2012)

Your mandatory dose of new music recommendations, chosen by Neu.

Neu’s guide to nights out and must hear bands continues for another week, with enough recommendations to render you lifeless - or at the very least, extremely busy.

WHO’S PLAYING WHERE?
Virginia Wing were all set to support Echo Lake at their significant comeback show tonight, but Ides (who we’re also big fans of) has been drafted in to play instead. Ides ‘16’ track features on this month’s magazine mixtape, by the way.

Ides and Evans the Death support Echo Lake at London’s Lexington venue, tonight.

WHO’S MAKING WAVES?
Young Fathers are Edinburgh-based sound experimentalists, capable of flipping convention on its head with the flick of a switch. A hip-hop influence gives each song brevity and enough life and energy to sink your teeth into. If the Anticon label (home to Why?) are on board, you know it’s a worthwhile listen. ‘Tape One’, their first release, is out this November.

FURTHER NEU BUSINESS
Stream the above and you might just find yourself falling in love with your new favourite band. Gap Dream don’t exactly put originality at the top of their priorities, but they hook you in on the sheer merit that their songs sound fucking cool. It reminds me of the first time I heard DIIV. Sure, the elements being played around with - reverb-sunken vocals, simple chord structures - aren’t a novelty these days, but the sound is so laced with style you can’t help but take notice. Above is ‘A Little Past Midnight’ - if you’re a fan, it’s the b-side to their new 7” single through Suicide Squeeze records.
