New music guide The Neu Bulletin (22nd September 2014)

DIY’s daily batch of new music tips, featuring Spring King, Wales and Giantee.

The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Some of the music you’ll like, some of it you won’t. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out of the inbox.

Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.

THE GIG:
Spring King, The Magic Gang, Sun Machine - London, Electrowerkz

Ahead of new EP ‘Demons’’ release, one of the best live bands in the UK are topping a brilliant bill for their first London headline gig in yonks. Spring King are joined by Brighton’s The Magic Gang - fresh from a fantastic set at Southsea Fest - and curious psych poppers Sun Machine. Want a quick glimpse of where things are heading in 2015? Head here.

THE BIG NEU THING:
Wales - Make It Up

Samuel Bennett’s music as Wales first picked up attention in 2013 with the ‘Still Gone’ debut. Schooled in delicate pop with barely there elements locking horns, he’s continued in similar form via ‘Make It Up’. Again, guitars are plucked lightly, bells ringing faintly in the background, and Bennett’s voice barely gathers up volume beyond a whisper - but when these sweet fragments combine, it makes for something enthralling.

OTHER NEU BUSINESS:
Giantee - Cololuv EP

Portsmouth/London resident Giantee’s first release brings together live recordings and two studio numbers that link Bon Iver-style falsetto with folktronica leanings. When it’s live, things are more organic and designed for late night lucid dreams - the rest is direct, like on ‘Cololuv’’s title-track, which practically screams to the skies and declares an exciting new talent.
