New music guide The Neu Bulletin (25th June 2014)

Neu delivers new music tips in spades, featuring Fake Laugh, The Wytches and Teen Body.

The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Some of the music you’ll like, some of it you won’t. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular.

Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery.

THE GIG:
The Wytches support Parquet Courts - London, O2 Academy

The Wytches and Parquet Courts might come across like kindred spirits, but the two noise fiends speak from very different pages. Tonight’s headliners sing about love and the munchies, whereas Brighton’s The Wytches are more intent on screaming and cackling about almost anything. It’s all documented in their debut album ‘Annabel Dream Reader’, which is fast approaching as an essential first work.

THE BIG NEU THING:
Fake Laugh - Nothing But Good

London four-piece Fake Laugh are the kind of outfit who, placed in a different decade, would take to the stage dressed in dapper suits, with crowds swooning at their every move. New song ‘Nothing But Good’ has a charming ‘50s sway to it, but it’s undeniably from this current age, given its scrappy rejoice and hardy rough edges. The track’s taken from a brilliant EP of the same name - it was recorded with Theo Verney in his “crib” last summer.

Tonight Fake Laugh play at London’s Notting Hill Arts Club.

OTHER NEU BUSINESS:
Teen Body - Quarterlife

Virginia via Brooklyn four-piece Teen Body are raised on the road, on a cocktail of Beach Fossils and old-fashioned teenage hedonism. They smoke cigarettes and fling them out of car windows, drink coffee ’till their veins spill. Debut track ‘Quarterlife’ is a romantic gem, a beast that’s tamed by sheer good intentions. Some of the band’s members might be familiar - Marcus McDonald (drums) was in oddball punk band Hoop Dreams.
