New music guide The Neu Bulletin (25th March 2015)
DIY’s new music tips, featuring Formation, Shura and TO.
The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out of the inbox.
Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.
THE GIG: Shura, Formation
One of the capital’s most essential gigs in yonks. Hyped-to-the-heavens singer Shura is leading the way, post-Texas triumph at SXSW. Selling out massive shows for fun, she’s joined by the forthright pop of Formation, a duo specialising in DFA-stamped percussion and golden age dance nods.
London, Village Underground
Trawl Sweden’s studios and out steps a new pop prodigy every second. TO does things different, though. Submerged in gruesome, swarming effects, she brings a thick, sludgy perspective to pop. Yes, elements of The Knife are there, but as far as Swedish pop goes, this is a refreshing glimpse of the future.
