News The Neu Bulletin (25th October 2012)
Neu’s daily guide to nights out and new music. Featuring Drop Out Venus, Ides and Laura Mvula.
Neu’s got you covered for new music recommendations and nights out this week. Each day we’ll give you a choice gig, plus a selection of fresh artists to check out.
THE GIG
Drop Out Venus, Ides, Sserpress - Sebright Arms
So we were convinced at first that two of our favourite new acts were combining in one small London space, as part of What She Said’s first ever promoted show. But then we listened to Sserpress and we found something else to adore. It’s a trio of acts that thrive in record, and it’s a well-known fact around these parts that Drop Out Venus take things a step up on stage. It’s a must-see show. More must-see than any show we’ve ever recommended you to date.
Drop Out Venus, Ides (pictured, above) and Sserpress play London’s Sebright Arms, tonight.
THE SONG
Colleagues - Parents’ House
Our weekly Scandi-pop dose comes courtesy of Sweden’s Colleagues. The only song we can get our hands on (and it’s difficult to hear anything else at the moment considering all of the band’s gigs are locked down in their home country) is as sweet as Scandi-pop can possibly get. Is this an evolution of twee? Can these doses of electronic sweetness get any cuter? Thanks to Dots and Dashes for the tip.
FURTHER NEU BUSINESS
Stripped back to its very beginnings, Laura Mvula’s ‘She’ certifies itself as a truly flooring pop song, here. If she ever writes a chorus as good as the one gracing this debut track, stardom is surely moments away. This intimate performance was filmed by Rankin, so it’s kind of a big deal, although Laura Mvula’s also a pretty big deal, or at least she’ll be bigger than your mate’s band in a year’s time, that’s for sure.
