THE GIG
Spring King - London, Shacklewell Arms
Travelling from Liverpool/Manchester from one of their debut London jaunts, Tarek Musa’s Spring King are here to bring their fleshy studio recordings to a discordant live environment.
THE SONG
Shivum Sharma - Flicker
Shivum Sharma possesses one heck of a voice. Combining fellow world-beater-of-a-voice Amy Winehouse with the lurking darkness of Fever Ray as influences is a pretty clear indication of what you’re getting with ‘Flicker’. Soulful to the point of no return, it’s a demo that’s likely sent every label in the country into one hell of a hot fuss.
OTHER NEU BUSINESS
The Graphite Set - Grayson Perry
Lily Buchanan’s The Graphite Set don’t do things in standard measures. All execution is pointed towards oddball melodies that skitter on the surface and curve around convention. ‘Grayson Perry’ is a rhythmic giant, all thumping guitar patterns and talk of acid trips sending the whole thing skywards.
